Oxfringe is proud to present our Hobgoblin Comedy Awards Gong Shows, running on two nights in Oxford. It will be set up much like a regular gong show, two minutes of free material, then up to 7 minutes, or until the gong sounds. Each show has a prize for those who beat the gong/judges overall winner. What’s important however is that it will be a lot of fun.
There are spaces available on these dates:
- Wednesday 31 March
- Friday 9 April
Show starts at: 8.30 pm. You will need to get there an hour before the start of the show.
Venue is the Dukes Cut, 1 Park End Street, Oxford, 2 mins walk from the bus or train station and right next to a city car park. There is a small friendly room with relaxed atmosphere.
We’re looking for a lot of different acts. Chances are press will be in on the night, and other local promoters.
Please send us an email with the title GONG SHOW ENTRANT as soon as possible. Please hurry as we expect this will be very popular performance opportunity. If you can only make one night, please tell us which. We will get back to you to let you know if you have been successfully selected for the show. Include a brief summary of your experience and style of comedy (if you are a musical act/character etc). If you have a website, please include this.
Oxfringe 2010 has successfully launched this week and our brochures are now available on the street. We have exclusive coverage headlining in this week’s Oxford Times Weekend Section.

Bob Harris
Latest news: Oxfringe is proud and excited to announce that Oxfordshire’s own “Whispering” Bob Harris has agreed to be our Music Patron. Renowned music presenter and broadcaster of the legendary Whistle Test TV shows, Bob currently presents BBC Radio 2’s The Bob Harris Show (Saturday 11 pm) and Bob Harris Country (Thursday 7 pm). Often described as the ‘John Peel of country music’, few people have broken as many bands into the mainstream.
“My work is inspired by new music and it is wonderful to be involved with Oxfringe, ” was Bob’s enthusiastic comment. ” New music is the lifeblood of my industry and I can’t wait to get further involved with the fantastic energy of the Oxfordshire independent music community, promoting and supporting our exciting local acts.”
Bob will be involved in Oxfringe in various ways over the coming months – watch this space for more details.
